Fast Car Finance recently helped a new client (a company director), to finance a 2022 Land Rover Defender 110 via his limited company. The client wanted a reliable and capable vehicle for business and personal use, estimating they’d cover approximately 10,000 miles annually.

The request was a simple one:

• Purchase the Land Rover Defender 110 through their company for tax efficiency.
• Keep the monthly payments manageable by incorporating a balloon payment at the end of the finance agreement.

What is a Balloon Payment?

A balloon payment is a one-off lump sum payment that falls due at the end of a finance agreement. It allows for lower monthly payments during the term of the agreement, making high-value purchases more affordable in the short term. At the end of the agreement, the client has a number of options to include:

1. Pay off the balloon amount in full.
2. Refinance the balloon payment.
3. Sell or part-exchange the vehicle to cover the outstanding amount.

This flexibility makes balloon payments an attractive option for customers who wish to enjoy access to a premium vehicle but at an affordable monthly payment.

After carefully reviewing the client’s requirements, we structured a bespoke Land Rover finance agreement:

• Tailored monthly finance payments: By spreading the cost of the vehicle over a suitable period, we ensured the monthly payments were within the client’s budget.
• Final balloon payment: We incorporated a balloon payment to reduce the monthly outgoings further, giving the client the flexibility to decide how to proceed at the end of the agreement.
• Business-friendly finance: As the vehicle was purchased through the Directors Limited company, the finance agreement was structured in a tax-efficient manner with regards the VAT payable upon acquisition. Classed as a Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV), the business was able to recover the VAT (noting this is NOT a Double Cab)
