October 28th – Bill Gates’ Birthday

This week, while some of us are preparing for Halloween celebrations, Bill Gates’ wife Melinda is preparing for his 64th birthday. While she’s busy digging out embarrassing photos of him to share via Instagram, as has become her tradition, we thought we’d take a look at some of his famous super-car collection.
Gates is famously private and his car collection is kept mostly secret, but we do know that alongside his Jaguar XJ6, Ferrari 348 and the Mercedes he reportedly uses as an everyday vehicle, he has a penchant for Porsche.
Porsche 930 Turbo
Reportedly one of the first Porsches Gates owned and some say the best ever production Porsche. The 930 was only available in the US for a few years and not much longer anywhere else, but this 1980’s icon is still many car-enthusiast’s dream car. You can purchase one of the last of this breed here for just under £100,000.
Porsche 911 Carrera 2
Whilst Gates has owned numerous Porsches, it’s the Carrera Cabriolet that famously got him into the most trouble for speeding. Perhaps he should have saved it for racing in the desert?
Bill’s 1979 Porsche 911 Turbo famously sold for $80,000 in 2012, but you could pick up a similar porsche like this for around £60,000.
Porsche 959 Coupe
Considered by some to be the most technically advanced super-car ever, the 959 was originally banned in the US until Gates famously fought for the ‘Show and Display’ law – financing lawyers and writing a program that demonstrated the crashworthiness of the car – enabling collectible vehicles to be exempt from safety and crash regulations.
You don’t need to change any laws to drive this amazing car in the UK, but you will need some serious finance! This 1987 version is currently for sale for just under £1million
